Rick Kane Elected Construction Industry Licensing Board Vice Chair

Rick Kane has been elected as vice-chairman of the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). The vote took place this past November, as Kane currently serves as principal of Brevard County’s Kane Construction Management Inc. and chairs the State of Florida Construction Industry Recovery Fund.

The CLIB, which is itself a division of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, meets in order to consider applications for licensure, hearing disciplinary cases, as well as conducting informal hearings to ensure the practices of local business meet statewide statutes as outlined by the CILB.

Kane has also served as the chair of the Continuing Education Committee and presently sits on the Rules Committee as well. He was appointed to the board in 2011 by Florida Governor Rick Scott.

Florida Budgets $1.52 Billion for Education Construction

The Florida state government has released plans for capital projects plan involving K-12, college, and university construction and maintenance projects for the 2016-17 fiscal year. The cost of said plan is projected at $1.52 billion.

The state government published a nine-page document listing dozens of construction projects, ranging from just a few thousand dollars to one estimated at over $12 million. Some state colleges have even expressed desires for lawmakers to consider an additional $167 million in construction projects over the next three years.

The list of projects, projected over the next three years by Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) is only part of a $626 million in proposed projects for Florida’s school system, which encompases 28 schools, handling an estimated 780,000 students annually.

Chancellor for the state colleges, Madeline Pumariega, has stated the construction list takes into consideration the college’s priorities, how well schools are utilizing existing space, and whether or not the project will affect high-priority areas of study, such as science, technology, engineering, and math.

Other notable projects on this three-year list include a dental-medical technology building for Palm Beach state College, estimated cost of $21.7 million, an industrial-tech building at Indian River State College, with an estimated cost of $19.8 million, an estimated $18.7 million math-science auditorium for Florida Gateway College, and a $22 million classroom-laboratory-library for Santa Fe College.

San Miguel Regional Hospital Contract Awarded to IBT Group of Miami

Thee Salvadoran Institute of Social Security (ISSS) has selected IBT Group of Miami to construct the new San Miguel Regional Hospital in El Salvador.

The IBT Group, which has experience in constructing turnkey hospitals and medical centers in Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Panama, has expressed their pleasure in being able to develop a first-class hospital for El Salvador.

The contract, financed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), at an estimated cost of $59.4 million, was signed by representative from UNOPS and the IBT Group of Miami on November 10 in San Salvador.

The project will involve remodeling current emergency services, dismantling and demolishing the existing infrastructure, new construction, and supplying and installing medical equipment. It was undertaken in response to the need for ISSS to provide a higher standard of healthcare to residents of the eastern part of El Salvador, which at present would overwhelm current medical facilities.

It’s expected, upon completion of the hospital in 2019, the area’s residents will receive care from an advanced healthcare facility, with strict sanitary requirements, and that resources will provide 160 hospital beds, five operating rooms, three emergency rooms, an intensive care unit, intermediate care, nephrology, external consultants, emergency services, pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, ambulatory medical procedures, as well as physical medicine.
